Goochland Parks Master Plan Town Hall Set for April 2
Goochland's Parks and Recreation Department holds its final public town hall April 2, the last chance for residents to weigh in before the county's Master Plan heads to the Board of Supervisors.

The Goochland County Parks and Recreation Department will hold its final Community Connect event April 2, giving residents one last opportunity to shape a master plan that will guide the county's parks, trails, and recreation facilities for the next 5 to 10 years.
The town hall will recap Master Plan progress, conceptual plans, and draft recommendations. Once that public process closes, the document moves to the Goochland County Board of Supervisors for formal adoption.
"We want to hear from everyone in the community," said Cocke. "Your input is critical to the success of this plan. Together, we can create a parks and recreation system that meets the needs of our growing community."
The plan covers a system that already spans considerable ground. Goochland Parks and Recreation manages 8 parks and outdoor recreation areas across 426 acres, with 15 athletic fields, 3 playgrounds, approximately 12 miles of walking trails, James River access, and outdoor performance areas. Three projects are actively in development: the East End Trails, Elk Island Recreational Area, and East End Park.
Within the Courthouse Village area, the draft master plan envisions a Courthouse Creek Trail connecting two anchor parks along a 12-foot greenway corridor. Hidden Rock Park, a 60-acre facility on the northern side of the village, would serve as the trail's northern trailhead. The park already hosts baseball and softball fields, soccer pitches, basketball courts, batting cages, trails, picnic shelters, a disc golf course, playgrounds, and a dog park. At the southern end, Tucker Park, a 36-acre stretch along the James River at 1300 Maidens Road in Maidens, anchors the trail's other terminus. Tucker Park currently offers trails, a playground, an outdoor classroom, an amphitheater, a dog park, and James River access for non-motorized boats.
Connectivity is central to the Courthouse Village vision: the greenway would link county offices, schools, shopping, grocery stores, and residential areas into a walkable corridor between the river and the village core.
April 2 marks the final public engagement session in a process that has included biweekly staff meetings, community outreach rounds, and work sessions with the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission. The plan is intended to give clear direction to county staff, the Recreation Advisory Commission, and elected officials on providing and enhancing recreation services as Goochland's population grows.
More information on the Master Plan process and how to get involved is available through the Parks and Recreation Department website.
