Lake County jail population rises to 7 in sheriff’s report

Lake County’s jail population climbed from 6 on Monday, July 6, to 7 on Tuesday, July 7, in the weekly sheriff’s report, keeping the county facility well below its 25-inmate capacity. The report is part of the regular public record maintained by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The daily counts matter because Lake County’s jail does more than hold local prisoners. The county says the facility also houses inmates from neighboring Cook County and St. Louis County, which makes even small shifts in the roster relevant to how much room remains for local bookings and how much load falls on correctional staff. Lake County’s jail information identifies Nathan Stadler as sheriff, with Janel Peer serving as jail administrator and PSAP coordinator.

Lake County says inmate information on its jail roster is public data provided under Minnesota Statutes sections 13.82, 13.85 and 641.05. The county also says information on juveniles held in the jail is restricted by Minnesota law. Along with the public jail roster, the Sheriff’s Office maintains an annual report, giving residents a standing record of how the jail and broader office are operating.

The latest count also matched the 6-inmate total listed in the prior June 8 sheriff’s report before edging up to 7 in the July 7 entry. That keeps the current load modest against the jail’s 25-bed limit, but the daily figures still provide a concrete measure of the county’s public-safety workload in a system that serves Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Fall Lake, and the rest of Lake County’s wide rural patrol area.
