Key Colony Beach Shamrock 'n' Roll Parade Fills Streets for St. Patrick's Day
Key Colony Beach's Shamrock 'n' Roll parade drew families clamoring for candy from fire trucks, cop cars and boats as celebrity dogs joined the march on March 17.

Golf carts, convertibles, boats, trailers, cop cars and fire trucks rolled through Key Colony Beach on March 17 as the KCB Community Association's annual Shamrock 'n' Roll parade turned the streets of one of the Florida Keys' smallest cities into a full-throated St. Patrick's Day celebration.
Families lined the streets clamoring for trinkets and candy tossed from the rolling parade lineup, which stretched to include first responders, Middle Keys businesses, elected officials, musicians and diehard fans of green, gold and cold beer, plus some celebrity dogs. The parade ran under the direction of chairman Larry Smoot.
The turnout reflected what Keys Weekly described as a city that "cranks festivities to the max to celebrate the luck of the Irish," a characterization that fit the mix of fire trucks and flat-bottomed boats sharing parade duty in a community compact enough to feel the full length of the procession from nearly any street corner.

The KCB Community Association has organized the Shamrock 'n' Roll each year, drawing residents and visitors alike into the streets for a procession that blends the Keys' nautical character, with boats among the parade conveyances, into a distinctly Irish-American holiday. Photos from the event by Alex Rickert were published March 19.
