Red Barn Theatre Brings New Play A Rock Sails By to Key West Stage
Red Barn managing director Mimi McDonald steps onstage in a rare acting role when the Key West theatre opens A Rock Sails By on March 31.

The Red Barn Theatre opens its next mainstage production, Sean Grennan's "A Rock Sails By," on March 31, with the company's own Managing Director, Mimi McDonald, taking the lead role of astrophysicist Dr. Lynn Cummings in what the theatre describes as a rare onstage performance for her.
The play runs through April 25, with performances Tuesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm, under the direction of Joy Hawkins. McDonald is joined by Susannah Wells, Lauren Thompson, Jody Orrigo, Glenda Donovan, and Fritzie Estimond.
The premise sits squarely at the intersection of the cosmic and the personal: when a UFO is sighted heading toward Earth, Dr. Cummings grants an interview to a journalist who has previously misquoted her. She invites him to watch the object pass closest to Earth, and what she discovers reaches well beyond astrophysics. The Red Barn bills the 90-minute production as a work that tackles science, faith, and the human condition without sacrificing humor or emotional honesty.
Grennan's script arrives in Key West with strong notices already attached. BroadwayWorld called the play "smart, witty, and relatable... a thought-provoking story filled with wit, humor, and emotion," while Coral Gables Magazine offered a more succinct verdict: "A soul searching delight."

Theatergoers planning a Thursday night can take advantage of a Thrifty Thursday special: two tickets for $90 plus fees using the discount code THRIFTYTHURSDAY at checkout.
The production is sponsored in part by Berkshire Hathaway and Stanley Kovak, as well as the Monroe County Tourist Development Council.
