Award-winning author and retired Distinguished Professor Randy Mills is presenting his newest book, "As if by Magic: The Story of Larry Bird's Indiana High School Basketball Days," at the Perry County Public Library's Tell City branch today, March 10, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Larry Beatty Room at 2328 Tell Street.

The three-hour program features a PowerPoint presentation built around rare photos, play-by-play game storytelling, and new insights into Bird's early years on the court. According to the Perry County Public Library's event listing, the program "celebrates the golden age of Indiana high school basketball" and includes dedicated coverage of Perry County basketball history, an audience Q&A session, and a book signing.

Bird, who grew up in French Lick before becoming one of the most celebrated players in NBA history, earned his national reputation in part through his years in Indiana's fiercely competitive high school basketball scene. Mills' book focuses on that formative chapter, drawing on what the library describes as rare archival material to reconstruct the games and the era that shaped him.
