A $25 craft class at the Perry County Public Library’s Tell City Branch drew a hard cap of 15 participants, turning the library at 2328 Tell Street into a small workshop for residents who wanted a hands-on project rather than a drop-in event.

The Wooden Initial with Felt Flowers Craft ran Saturday, May 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Jennifer Brown of Glitter & Vinyl Girl led the session, which centered on making a wooden initial decorated with felt flowers. The library described the finished project as a personalized home décor item or gift.

The size limit made the class one of the more tightly managed offerings on the Tell City branch calendar. Registration was handled in advance by phone at (812) 547-2661 or by email at kmorris@perrycountypl.org, a setup that signaled the library expected more interest than the room could hold.

For Perry County residents, the program showed how the Tell City branch has moved beyond a traditional checkout model. Perry County Public Library describes the branch as “more than just a place to borrow books,” calling it a “vibrant community hub” with resources and services for all ages. The library’s mission says it serves all residents of Perry County through branch locations and outreach services for education, information and recreation.

The workshop also fit into a busier spring schedule at the Tell City branch. Other nearby programs on the calendar included a Butterfly Frame Craft on May 7, a Puzzle Swap beginning May 11 and an adult Summer Reading Bingo program running from May 26 through July 14. Together, those offerings point to a branch that is using low-cost programming to bring people back through the door for more than library transactions.

That approach is consistent with the branch’s meeting room policy, which says the Tell City location makes its meeting room available to support library programs and for organizations engaged in educational, cultural, intellectual, civic or charitable activities. In practical terms, the craft workshop gave families, adults and gift-makers a paid local option for a guided project without leaving Tell City.
