Tell City softball shut out by North Posey, 18-0, in seventh straight loss
North Posey handed Tell City an 18-0 loss Saturday, with Madison Versteeg driving in nine runs and the Marksmen managing only three hits.

North Posey turned Tell City’s trip into an 18-0 rout Saturday, leaving the Marksmen with a blunt reminder of how much sharper they must be before the next stretch of games.
The loss dropped Tell City to 5-7 and extended its skid against the Vikings to seven straight. In the broader series, the gap has been just as steep, with Tell City entering the game 1-9 against North Posey since April 2016. North Posey, meanwhile, improved to 11-9 and has now won five of its last six, a run that helps explain why the Vikings controlled this one from the start.
Tell City did not go quietly at the plate, but the offense never found enough traction to threaten. The Marksmen finished with three hits, and Hadley Rayburn supplied one of them with a 1-for-3 day that also included a stolen base. Three Tell City players reached safely with hits, yet none of those chances turned into a rally. That was the difference in a game that started to slip away quickly and never came back within reach.
North Posey’s lineup was relentless. Madison Versteeg had the biggest night of the game, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, nine RBI and two runs. Her nine-RBI performance was a new career high and set the tone for a Vikings offense that piled up runs in a hurry. Lily Hester reached base in all five of her plate appearances, scored twice, drove in a run and stole three bases. Paige Vaughn added a 3-for-4 effort with a double, two runs and two RBI, while Kayla Lindenschmidt went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Alyssa Sanders also scored twice and reached base twice in four plate appearances.
The margin was no surprise given North Posey’s season-long pattern of lopsided wins. The Vikings had already won seven games by six runs or more, and they showed that same ability to separate from opponents again at Tell City. For the Marksmen, the challenge is more immediate: tighten the pitching, limit the big innings and turn scattered contact into sustained pressure, especially after scoring 10 runs in their previous game.
Tell City returned to action against Tecumseh on May 4, while North Posey was slated to face Evansville North the same day. The 18-run shutout gave Perry County another clear benchmark for where the Marksmen stand against one of the area’s stronger softball programs.
