A 69-year-old Tell City man was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated after striking an 18-year-old pedestrian who had the right-of-way signal at the intersection of 12th Street and Tell Street on Saturday evening. Less than two hours later, a 13-year-old bicyclist was hit at a separate Tell City intersection. Both victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The first crash was reported at approximately 5:56 p.m. on March 14. Kaleb Harding, 18, was walking with a friend and crossing Tell Street in a designated crosswalk when a 2013 Nissan turning right onto 12th Street struck him. Police say the pedestrian walk signal indicated it was safe to cross at the time of the collision. Harding was transported to a local medical facility with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The driver, Gary Board, 69, of Tell City, underwent a post-crash evaluation conducted with assistance from a certified Drug Recognition Expert from a neighboring agency. Officers developed probable cause and charged Board with operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in bodily injury. He was booked into the Perry County Detention Center.

Shortly before 7:50 p.m., emergency crews responded to a second, unrelated crash at the intersection of 15th Street and Mozart Street. A 13-year-old was riding a bicycle northbound on 15th Street and failed to stop at the posted stop sign before entering the intersection. The bicyclist was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Mozart Street and was transported to a medical facility for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests were reported in connection with the second crash.

Both incidents remain under investigation by the Tell City Police Department.

Following the crashes, the department issued a statement urging caution: "The Tell City Police Department reminds motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists to remain attentive and follow all traffic control devices. Drivers should exercise caution when approaching crosswalks and intersections, while pedestrians and bicyclists are encouraged to remain alert and obey traffic signals to help prevent crashes.
