Rockwall County recognizes older Americans, urges support for seniors

Rockwall County used its May 11 Older Americans Month notice to put a real service name behind its message to seniors: Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County. The county commissioners court encouraged residents to recognize the contributions of older citizens and to support programs, services and activities that promote connection, inclusion and well-being for older adults across the community.

That framing matters in a county where aging is not just a health issue but a daily services issue. The Administration for Community Living observes Older Americans Month every May, and its 2026 theme, Champion Your Health, centers prevention, wellness and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging. Rockwall County’s notice fit that national message, but it also pushed the conversation closer to home, toward the practical supports that help older residents stay connected rather than isolated.

Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County is the clearest example of that support network. The organization says its mission is to help elderly and disabled citizens live in their homes as long as safely possible through nutritious meals, daily human contact and supportive services. It says its Meals on Wheels program provides more than 95,000 meals each year to seniors and people with disabilities in Rockwall County. Another community listing places the annual total at more than 45,000 meals, underscoring the scale of the demand and the organization’s reach.

The local observance was not limited to one county notice. The City of Rockwall’s May 4 agenda included an Older Americans Month proclamation, and Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County held an Older Americans Day Award Celebration on May 8. Together, those acknowledgments showed that county and city leaders, along with service providers, were treating older adults as part of the civic core, not as an afterthought.
