Murder charge follows Bath-area body discovery, police investigate stabbing claim
A Brunswick man is jailed on a murder charge after Bath police responded to a disturbance and investigators found a dead man in a Brunswick home near Randall Circle.

A Brunswick man is facing a murder charge after Bath police responded to a reported disturbance and state investigators found a dead adult male inside a Brunswick home, a case that has shaken residents near the Durham town line and drawn in multiple law-enforcement agencies across Sagadahoc and Cumberland counties.
Maine State Police said Bath police were called around 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2026. During that response, 45-year-old Tanner Dostie of Brunswick made statements to officers that led investigators to a residence in Brunswick, where they found the body. Police said the man’s remains were taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for autopsy to confirm identity and determine the cause and manner of death.
Dostie was charged with murder and taken to the Cumberland County Jail. Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South is leading the investigation with help from Bath police, Brunswick police, the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
On Monday, April 13, 2026, Dostie appeared in Cumberland County Superior Court and was held without bail. At that stage, authorities had not publicly identified the victim.
Later reporting identified the victim as 61-year-old Dennis Blasens. Court papers reportedly alleged that Dostie fatally stabbed Blasens, dismembered the body with a chainsaw and burned remains in a fire pit behind Dostie’s home on Randall Circle. The affidavit was sealed, and autopsy results were still pending.
The allegations have left a wooded section of Brunswick, including the Randall Circle neighborhood near the Durham town line, facing renewed concerns about violent crime in an area many residents have long viewed as quiet. For Sagadahoc County, the case also underscores how quickly a local disturbance in Bath can expand into a multi-agency homicide investigation spanning neighboring communities and a court process now centered in Cumberland County.
