West Bath Home Destroyed in Monday Night Blaze, One Injured
A person suffered minor burns after a blaze destroyed a West Bath home Monday night, with six fire departments responding and the State Fire Marshal now investigating.

A home on Fosters Point Road in West Bath was reduced to rubble Monday night after a fire that injured at least one person and drew crews from across six Sagadahoc County communities, leaving the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office to determine what sparked the blaze.
The fire was reported just after 8 p.m. at a two-and-a-half-story house on Fosters Point Road, with firefighters from West Bath, Brunswick, and Topsham arriving to find the structure already fully engulfed. Mutual aid from Bath, Phippsburg, and Woolwich followed after West Bath Fire Chief Jonathan Beane called a first alarm. "Upon arrival, the fire was visible from the exterior of the structure, and what we call a first alarm was pulled, that brought in mutual aid from surrounding towns," Beane said.
With the building fully involved on arrival, crews made no attempt to enter. "It was a defensive attack right off — surround and drown," a Brunswick fire lieutenant said. Firefighters worked from the exterior to contain the blaze, and the scene took approximately three hours to clear, with the fire knocked down by about 11:30 p.m.
The house was considered a total loss. Once the fire was extinguished, an excavator was brought in to demolish what remained of the structure. Beane said the house appeared to have been abandoned, though he could not confirm how long it had sat vacant.
One person suffered injuries in the fire. According to Beane, the injured individual was an "unknown individual" who did not own or rent the home. Paramedics transported the person to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor burns. Officials at other responding agencies declined to characterize the severity of the injuries.

The street address of the fire remained in dispute across reports, with some outlets citing 172 Fosters Point Road and others citing 183 Fosters Point Road. The discrepancy had not been publicly resolved as of Tuesday.
The Salvation Army said in a social media post that it provided hydration, coffee, and snacks to crews working the scene.
The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office, confirmed by the Maine Department of Public Safety, is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. No preliminary findings have been released.
