Texas County’s farm economy had openings on both the livestock and grain sides, with Prestage Farms recruiting in Texhoma for Animal Caretaker and Farm Maintenance Technician positions and ADM advertising an Assistant Elevator Superintendent job in Hooker.

The ADM role carried a posted pay range of roughly $58,100 to $108,000, along with vacation, sick pay, a 401(k) and medical insurance. That kind of compensation puts the opening well above the county’s usual entry-level wage picture and signals how valuable experienced grain workers remain in a place where harvest, storage and shipping still drive a large share of local payrolls.

The jobs also fit the scale of the county itself. Texas County is Oklahoma’s second-largest county by land area, with 2,041.3 square miles and a 2020 population of 21,384. Guymon has served as the county seat since 1907, and Hooker and Texhoma are among the incorporated towns that help anchor the Oklahoma Panhandle’s farm belt.

That matters because the county is not just rural in name. The Texas County Farm Bureau lists wheat, corn, milo, cattle and hogs as the area’s principal agricultural products, and USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counted 866 farms here. A county-level summary based on that census put commodity sales at about $1.2 billion, showing how much local income depends on keeping animals fed, grain moving and equipment running.

Prestage Farms says its Oklahoma job board lists current openings and that the company operates in the state. Its site also says it supports local farmers by buying locally produced grain, tying the Texhoma jobs to the broader crop economy that feeds the Panhandle. ADM describes itself as a global agricultural origination and processing company, and an ADM location listing places ADM Grain in Hooker at Highway 54 and County Road 42.

Taken together, the openings point to a labor market that still needs people with practical, hands-on skills, from livestock care and farm maintenance to elevator supervision and grain handling. For Texas County families, those jobs matter because they offer a paycheck tied directly to the county’s core industries, while also helping employers retain workers who might otherwise leave for larger markets. They also show that the business base in Texhoma and Hooker still depends on steady hiring to keep the farm and feed system moving.
