Champneys opens first international spa at Gran Marbella, cold plunge pool
Champneys has opened its first international spa at Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club, bringing a thermal circuit that includes a 15°C cold plunge and a 63m² hydrotherapy pool to the Costa del Sol.

Champneys has opened its first international spa at the Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club on the Costa del Sol, bringing its centenary wellness programme to Real de Zaragoza beach after the resort opened in summer 2025. Trade coverage in May 2025 flagged a planned July 1, 2025 opening, and the resort’s spa page now lists full operating details and treatments following the summer launch.
The project is a partnership between Champneys and Iconic Hotels, variously reported as Iconic Hotels & Resorts and Iconic Luxury Hotels, underlining the resort affiliation. Alan Whiteley, CEO at Champneys Health Resorts, framed the move as tied to the brand’s 100th year: “As we have just celebrated 100 years of Champneys, it felt like the perfect time to expand our expertise into Europe, bringing our wellness heritage to a new coastal setting,” says Alan Whiteley, CEO at Champneys Health Resorts. “Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club offers the perfect setting for us. It’s our signature approach, with a sunnier outlook.”
The spa’s on-site specifications come from the Gran Marbella Resort spa page: six treatment sanctuaries including one couples’ suite, a dynamic hydrotherapy pool of 63m² with dual pressure jets, a cascading waterfall and counter-current system, an ambient relaxation pool of 39.9m², and a cold plunge pool maintained at 15°C. Complementary facilities include a Jacuzzi, sauna, traditional hammam, sensory showers, a Technogym-equipped gym and a studio space for classes. The spa lists opening hours as 9:30 am to 6:30 pm and offers example pricing such as a 110-minute body treatment at €280, with a promotional Wellness Retreat package offering 15% off stays and daily spa access.
Programming emphasises a contrast-therapy-led thermal circuit that moves guests between heat experiences and cold immersion as the backbone of restorative treatments. Champneys’ menu there combines its classic massages and facials with bespoke coastal-influenced experiences and studio-led classes from energising movement to mindfulness, supported by on-site instructors.
There is a small discrepancy in trade reporting on treatment-room counts: the official resort spa page lists six treatment sanctuaries, while a May 2025 trade brief recorded seven treatment rooms. The spa page’s technical figures for pool sizes and the 15°C cold plunge are the primary public specifications available on site.
The opening extends Champneys’ footprint after 100 years in business: founded in 1925, the brand marked its centenary in 2025 and is now listed as operating four spa resorts, two spa hotels and two city spa locations. Iconic Hotels’ executive Andrew Stembridge welcomed the tie-up, saying, “We’re delighted to have Champneys Wellness Spa join us at Gran Marbella Resort and Beach Club” … “It’s more than a partnership, it's a celebration of individualised wellness experiences, craftsmanship, and culture.”
Suppliers and branding details are already in place, with towels by BC Softwear and uniforms by Florence Roby appearing in resort materials. With a 15°C cold plunge sitting at the heart of its thermal circuit and a 63m² hydrotherapy pool for contrast work, Champneys’ Gran Marbella spa positions the century-old British brand for further mainland Europe visibility.
