Lisa Young Retires from KVNF After Three-and-a-Half Years Producing Regional Newscast
Lisa Young is stepping away from her full-time KVNF role after three and a half years producing the ten-minute Regional Newscast twice each weekday; Audrey McCabe will take over.

Lisa Young retired from her full-time position at KVNF after three and a half years producing the station’s ten-minute Regional Newscast twice each weekday, the station announced during its March 4, 2026 broadcast. KVNF described her as “a familiar voice on KVNF” stepping away from the daily microphone while confirming that Young will continue contributing stories to KVNF as a freelance reporter.
Young’s daily duties anchored the Regional Newscast for the Western Slope audience; KVNF’s copy credited her work with helping “establish a consistent source of local reporting across the Western Slope.” Producing and hosting the twice-daily ten-minute program placed Young at the center of regional coverage from small towns to county seats across the listening area.
KVNF News Director Brody Wilson conducted a farewell conversation with Young that aired on the March 4 newscast. In that conversation Young reflected on her reporting priorities, saying, “The most important thing to me has always been, am I being fair? Am I accurate? Am I fair?” The exchange underscored the editorial standards she cited while guiding the Regional Newscast.
Station copy also traced Young’s start in radio to an unexpected moment in Sterling, Colorado, noting she “walked into a station after hearing a sports broadcast she thought she could improve.” KVNF presented that anecdote alongside her retirement segment to frame a career that began with a local impulse to engage community radio.
KVNF named Audrey McCabe as the producer and host who will take over the Regional Newscast. The station’s announcement stated “Audrey McCabe will take over producing and hosting the Regional Newscast,” but did not specify an exact handover date on the March 4 broadcast. Young’s shift to freelance contributor leaves open a continued presence in KVNF programming while McCabe assumes daily duties.
The March 4 Regional Newscast that carried Young’s farewell also covered other local items, including the sudden resignation of the Hotchkiss mayor, a proposed outdoor recreation bill at the state legislature, new management rules for Blue Lakes, and local precinct caucus schedules. With McCabe stepping in and Young remaining available as a freelance reporter, KVNF faces an immediate task: maintaining the consistent local reporting across the Western Slope that Young helped establish.
