One critically injured after car strikes crowd in Arnold town centre
A red Vauxhall Astra struck multiple pedestrians in Arnold town centre, leaving one person with life-threatening injuries and prompting a police appeal for footage.

One person suffered life-threatening injuries after a red Vauxhall Astra struck multiple pedestrians in Arnold town centre, as Nottinghamshire Police worked to trace the driver who fled on foot.
The collision happened in Market Place at 1.12am on Saturday, 9 May 2026. Police said the car was abandoned at the scene after the crash, and officers have already identified a suspect, believed to be a white man. Nottinghamshire Police said there was no indication at this stage of any ongoing threat to the wider public.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow said officers would remain in the area to carry out further inquiries, speak to local people and offer reassurance. Police are asking anyone with dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage to contact them without delay, as investigators piece together exactly how the incident unfolded and whether it should be treated as a collision, reckless driving or something more deliberate.
Road closures remained in place around Arnold town centre as the investigation continued. Those restrictions included Market Place and the junctions from Gedling Road to Derby Street, Hallams Lane and Central Avenue, with motorists told to avoid the area.
The scale of the police response reflects the severity of the injuries and the number of pedestrians hit. Officers have not said how many people were injured in total, but they confirmed that several were struck and that one victim’s injuries were described as life-threatening.
The case comes against a backdrop of wider policing concerns in Gedling, where antisocial behaviour, acquisitive crime and drugs remain current priorities. Nottinghamshire Police has also said antisocial behaviour has long been a priority in the area, including work targeting speeding, motorcycles and illegal e-bikes and e-scooters. In a September 2025 policing update, the force said shop theft in Gedling had fallen by 47 per cent in the previous month.
Anyone with information has been asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 46 of 9 May 2026, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Investigators are now relying on witnesses and video evidence to establish the sequence of events in the early hours of Saturday morning.
