The Future Leaders indoor axe-throwing night at Axes and Os in Sterling sold out on July 16, with the event page directing interested attendees to a waiting list as the building-industry networking series filled the venue at 21680 Ridgetop Circle, Suite 125. The turnout turned a simple recreation night into a packed professional mixer, with an axe coach lined up to walk guests through throwing techniques and safety requirements for anyone trying the sport for the first time.

That no-experience-needed pitch is part of why the format keeps landing with mixed crowds. Axes and Os says it is open Wednesday through Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and presents itself as a woman-owned business with a wider slate of uses than a single one-off event. Along with book-a-lane service, the venue promotes corporate events, mobile axe throwing and an IATF Thursday League, a setup that gives beginners, league regulars and business groups a common entry point under one roof.

The sold-out network night also fits the business model the venue has advertised since it first surfaced publicly. In early local coverage, owners Tara Hampton-Radney and Alan Radney said they wanted to draw birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate events and team-building groups, and noted they had joined the World Axe Throwing League. Coverage in 2020 added that the venue opened during the pandemic, a difficult launch that makes the current demand more notable as a sign the concept has settled into a steadier market in Loudoun County.

Axes and Os’ sports side is not just casual entertainment, either. The World Axe Throwing League says it standardizes the sport with official league rules, strict safety protocols and staff training, which helps explain why a place built for competition can also work as a polished networking venue. For Sterling, the sold-out Future Leaders night points to a format that is spreading beyond the usual nightlife crowd. Corporate outings, beginner instruction and league play are all being packaged in the same space, and the July 16 turnout showed there is still room in Loudoun County for axe throwing to serve as both a social sport and a practical gathering place for local professionals.
