Boys Interrupted gears up for Quarterfinals in Idaho documentary
Inside CrossFit Canvas, Hopper, Sprague, Medeiros and Pepper sharpened for Quarterfinals, a five-day test where one wrong pace can end a Games run.

Boys Interrupted put four of CrossFit’s biggest men under the same roof in Idaho, and the result was less a highlight reel than a rare look at how contenders actually prepare when the margin for error gets thin. Jayson Hopper, James Sprague, Justin Medeiros and Dallin Pepper were the focus inside CrossFit Canvas, a 12,000-square-foot training facility that has become a home base for some of the sport’s most recognizable names.
The timing mattered. Quarterfinals are the second stage of the 2026 CrossFit Games season, and the field narrows fast from there, with the top 25 percent of individuals and age-group athletes worldwide moving on from the Open. Athletes completed four workouts over five days and submitted scores online, with the 2026 Quarterfinals running March 26-30 and scores due by Monday, March 30 at 12 p.m. PT. In a sport that can pivot on pacing, judgment and recovery, that five-day window is where reputations start to separate from results.

The Idaho setting gave the episode its edge. Hopper arrived as the 2025 Fittest Man on Earth, having turned a near-miss into a title after finishing one point off the podium at the 2024 Games. Sprague came in as the 2024 champion and, at 22, as one of the sport’s youngest major winners. Medeiros added the weight of history with two CrossFit Games titles of his own. Pepper brought the current form: he ranked 18th worldwide in the 2026 Individual Quarterfinals, sat fourth in North America West, and finished fourth at the 2025 Games.

That combination is what made the training group compelling. Boys Interrupted is not a loose collection of friends chasing the same workouts. It is a pressure environment, where the athletes can measure how a Games champion moves next to a two-time champion, and how a newer titleholder like Hopper handles the same work as a veteran like Medeiros. The episode showed the kind of decision-making that matters in CrossFit, when athletes have to choose how hard to push early, how much to save for later, and how to keep the room competitive without letting it become chaotic.
The broader season context only sharpened the stakes. CrossFit’s 2026 Games are scheduled for July 24-26 in San Jose, California, so Quarterfinals sits near the first major gate on the road to the finale. A separate April 7 feature also followed the same group to Alaska with the Air National Guard, where they observed rucking, standing broad jumps, swim evaluations and pararescue training, another sign that Boys Interrupted has become a recurring lens on how elite athletes build toughness far from the competition floor.
