CrossFit spotlights masters winners Jones, Hoffmann after Magic City Games
Marquan Jones and Christine Hoffmann turned Magic City Games wins into San Jose tickets, and CrossFit used its May 13 podcast to frame the Masters race.

CrossFit put two of the spring’s sharpest Masters stories at center stage on May 13, when Sport of Fitness featured Magic City Games winners Marquan Jones and Christine Hoffmann and the path that carried both athletes to the 2026 Masters CrossFit Games in San Jose. Jones won the Men’s 35-39 division and Hoffmann took the Women’s 50-54 title, then joined the show to discuss the first in-person Semifinals for the Masters division and what it meant to lock up their tickets to July’s final.
The timing mattered. The Magic City Games ran May 1-3 in Birmingham, Alabama, and landed in the middle of a qualification system that has become more layered in 2026, with both in-person and online stages feeding the same destination. CrossFit said the Age-Group Online Semifinals ran May 7-11 and served as the last qualifying stage for the 2026 Masters CrossFit Games and 2026 Teenage CrossFit Games. With the field narrowed from Quarterfinals cutlines of the top 400 in the 35-54 divisions and top 300 in the 55+ divisions, every finish carried more weight than it did in a simpler season.

That is what makes Jones and Hoffmann such useful markers for the Masters division right now. Jones is not just another qualifier, either; CrossFit lists him as a former Clemson football player, and his profile shows he finished second at the 2025 Games in the Men’s 35-39 division after placing seventh in 2025 Semifinals. Hoffmann’s rise is different but just as instructive. She is listed as an athlete for CrossFit Vanquish in Brookfield, Wisconsin, and her profile shows a climb from 164th in the 2024 Semifinals in Women’s 50-54 to 71st in 2025 before breaking through this season.
CrossFit has made a point of keeping those Masters results visible as the Road to San Jose unfolds. The company said three Semifinals that weekend qualified six individuals, two teams and 28 Masters athletes to the 2026 Games, while an official Legends Championship Semifinals event handed out 28 Masters invitations on April 27. The destination is now fixed, too: the 2026 Masters CrossFit Games are scheduled for July 21-23 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. For Jones and Hoffmann, Magic City Games was the step that changed the season. For the rest of the Masters field, it was another reminder that the race is tightening fast.
