Barcelona health event draws 6,000, spotlights preventive care in public spaces
More than 6,000 people filled Campus Clínic for 120 health activities, turning the hospital precinct into a public test case for preventive wellness.

More than 6,000 people turned Campus Clínic into a street-level showcase for prevention, with roughly 120 activities spread across the campus and a clear message: in Barcelona, demand for health education now reaches far beyond the exam room. The second edition of Clínic Obert drew a larger crowd than its debut and showed how strongly a public-facing format built around healthy habits, science and accessible advice can resonate in the city.
The free event ran on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., under the slogan Viu la salut al carrer. It took place on Carrer Casanova between Provença and París, as well as at the Maternitat site, and was organized by Hospital Clínic Barcelona, IDIBAPS, ISGlobal, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona, CAPSBE and Fundació Món Clínic. That mix of institutions matters: the campus was not just staging a one-off public day, it was presenting healthcare, research and teaching as part of the city’s everyday civic life.
The activity lineup was built for participation, not passive attendance. The 2026 edition included 62 health booths on the street, 24 educational talks, 16 guided visits and science-and-health workshops for children, alongside other sessions focused on healthy habits. That is the part fitness and wellness operators in Barcelona should watch closely. The strongest pull was not spectacle, but utility: people came for practical guidance, easy access and a chance to engage with prevention in a social setting that felt open rather than clinical.
Clínic Obert has already shown signs of becoming a fixture. The first edition, held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, drew an estimated 5,000 people and packed more than 100 activities into 15,000 square meters, with four stages, five lecture rooms, 18 talks, 15 interior visits and more than 60 tents. The jump to more than 6,000 visitors this year suggests that the public appetite is growing, and that medical institutions are learning how to speak the language of Barcelona’s fitness culture. In this format, prevention is not an afterthought. It is the main event.
