Tiba Tempeh is trying to solve the protein snack gap in the chilled aisle with Protein Bites, a single-serve tempeh snack built for the kind of purchase that usually goes to yogurts, boiled eggs or meat sticks. The UK brand has launched the product in Roasted and Southern Style flavors, positioning it as an on-the-go snack rather than a meal and betting that tempeh can earn a place outside the meat-alternative aisle.

The 60g grab-and-go pack is listed at £1.50 and carries 12g of protein plus 3.5g of fibre. A smaller 45g food-to-go pack sells for £1.30. The grab-and-go size was due into Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado from 6 May 2026, a retail rollout that matters because chilled snacks live or die on convenience, visibility and repeatable impulse buys.

Tiba is leaning hard into the idea that shoppers want familiar formats with a cleaner story. The company says Protein Bites are made from whole-bean tempeh and 100% natural ingredients, with low saturated fat as part of the pitch. That gives the product a sharper angle than many protein snacks that still rely on long ingredient decks and heavy processing. Ross Longton said the brand’s mission is to help people eat better and that many on-the-go snacks are ultra-processed and short on real nutrition.

The launch also shows how far Tiba Tempeh has moved from its roots. Ross and Alexandra Longton founded the company in 2019 after discovering tempeh on a trip to Indonesia, and the business is now a Certified B Corporation. Tiba has also built momentum in the chilled meat-free category, where it was described as the fastest-growing brand in the UK after reporting a 736% sales increase.

That growth helped set up further expansion. In March 2025, Tiba Tempeh raised £1.1 million to support marketing, sales and product development, with new launches expected through 2025 and 2026. Protein Bites is the clearest sign yet that the brand is trying to turn tempeh into a mainstream snack, not just a cooking ingredient for plant-based shoppers. If the format sticks, tempeh could start competing for everyday refrigerated snacking occasions, not merely shelf space in the alternative-protein set.
