Pizza Hut expands delivery into Superior, widening local service area

Pizza Hut’s delivery map now reaches Superior, Wisconsin, giving residents across the Blatnik Bridge another way to order and giving the local franchise a wider area to manage. The change surfaced when a customer received a flyer, checked Pizza Hut’s website and found the Superior address now eligible for delivery.

For workers, the bigger story is not just that pies can now go to more addresses. Delivery radius is often set by the franchisee, not by one national rule, so the footprint can shift store by store depending on labor, demand, vehicle coverage and whether the route makes money. For drivers, that can mean longer runs, more miles and more wear on a car. It can also mean more tickets during slow dine-in periods. For kitchen crews, the added territory can change the order mix and compress the pace of peak dinner prep. For managers, the new challenge is balancing delivery times, staffing and quality without overextending the team.

The Duluth store at 5501 Grand Ave is the likely operating base for the expanded service, and the move builds on a change that had already happened quietly the previous summer, when the Grand Avenue Pizza Hut expanded its delivery area before many local residents noticed. In practical terms, that means a local menu change can ripple through the make line, the cut table and the driver queue at the same time.

The expansion also fits Pizza Hut’s broader business model. The company says 99% of its restaurants are franchised, it operated 19,942 restaurants worldwide and 6,600 in the United States as of December 2023, and its traditional U.S. format includes dine-in, carry-out and restaurant-based delivery. Pizza Hut also describes its Delco delivery-and-carryout model as one of its fastest-growing formats, a sign that service-area decisions are central to how the brand grows. Its location pages also say delivery hours may vary, underscoring how much local operators control access and timing.

For longtime residents, the move carries a bit of local history too. Superior once had Pizza Hut locations on Tower Avenue and Hammond Avenue, and the Tower Avenue store, which opened in 1973, later closed after a fire in 2003. The new delivery option does not restore those old storefronts, but it does bring Pizza Hut back onto more Superior dinner tables, one route at a time.
