Restaurants of Jamaica (ROJ) opened a new Pizza Hut in Harbour View, St Andrew on Dec. 30, investing about $130 million in construction and creating 35 new jobs in the community. The location was met with strong customer interest from residents and commuters, reinforcing Harbour View's viability for major quick-service brands.

The new outlet brings ROJ's portfolio to 53 restaurants nationwide: 39 KFC and 14 Pizza Hut locations. The Pizza Hut opening followed a recent wave of ROJ investments in the area, including a $200 million KFC in Junction that created 43 jobs and a $200 million KFC in Harbour View that previously generated 55 positions. ROJ noted that it had opened two new restaurants within a three-week span as part of its growth push. "Opening two new restaurants within the space of three weeks speaks to our continued commitment to growth and investment in our nation and to creating employment for our fellow Jamaicans," said Mark Myers, managing director of Restaurants of Jamaica.

ROJ's Harbour View KFC, which opened in April 2019, had seen packed dining rooms and drive-thru lines before the COVID-19 pandemic. While pandemic-era measures have limited indoor capacity at some outlets, drive-thru demand has remained strong, a pattern that ROJ appears to be banking on as it expands its Pizza Hut footprint. "The Pizza Hut brand has been warmly welcomed by the people of Harbour View and we are extremely happy to now be a part of the community," Myers added.

For workers, the new store means immediate hourly and managerial openings across front-of-house, kitchen, and drive-thru roles. Rapid expansion can create steady hiring opportunities but also heightens pressure on training, scheduling, and retention as stores ramp up to meet strong foot traffic. Operators typically need to fill crew, shift lead, and supervisory roles quickly to maintain service levels during peak periods, and the persistence of long drive-thru lines suggests sustained demand that will shape staffing patterns.

The Harbour View shopping complex has been undergoing renovations and attracting other national brands such as Devon House Ice Cream, and ROJ executives have indicated further developments could be forthcoming. That cluster effect can increase shift availability and allow workers in the area to find multiple quick-service employers within close proximity.

As ROJ pushes ahead with capital projects and new openings, employees can expect more hiring in the short term but will also face the operational realities that come with busy quick-service environments: fast onboarding, high customer volumes, and a need for flexible scheduling. For workers and managers in Jamaica's quick-service industry, ROJ's latest openings are a sign of expanding opportunity and a reminder that staffing and training will be central to meeting rising customer demand.
