El Dorado Hills Taco Bell Workers Walk Out, Picket Over Alleged Racism

Workers at the Taco Bell located at 3967 Park Dr in El Dorado Hills staged a walkout and picket in the afternoon, saying repeated racist harassment and violent outbursts by a store manager made the workplace unsafe. Cooks and cashiers carried signs and spoke with customers and passersby as attorneys and union organizers joined them outside the restaurant near 3:00 p.m.

Employees named in filings and press materials include Isabel Borges Ramirez (also reported as Isabel Borges Ramire) and Gabriela Flores Carpio. Those employees and supporting advocates allege ongoing verbal abuse from a manager, including racist slurs and repeated profanity. One statement attributed to workers reads, “We have been subjected to ongoing verbal racist threats and abuse, including being called ‘stupid’ and ‘f\\\ing Mexicans,’” while Legal Aid at Work materials quote the complaint as saying, “The store manager expresses his anger at us with ongoing verbal racist threats and abuse, including nearly every shift calling both of us ‘stupid,’ ‘motherf\ckers’ and ‘f\cking Mexicans’; and making racist statements when he sees Latino customers who do not speak English.” Workers also allege the manager engaged in violent outbursts, with one report saying the manager “punched a wall so forcefully that his knuckles bled.”
