Target Hosts Lowell Heroes & Helpers Shopping Event for Children
On December 19, 2025 Target funded and hosted a Heroes & Helpers shopping trip in Lowell where 100 children selected by Lowell Public Schools shopped alongside Lowell Police, Lowell Fire, state troopers and EMS volunteers. The retailer provided $2,500 in gift cards, and the event highlights how store teams and community partners work together to support families while shaping employee roles and store operations during the holiday season.

Target’s store in Lowell opened its doors on December 19 for the annual Heroes & Helpers event, welcoming 100 children chosen by Lowell Public Schools for a supervised holiday shopping experience. Target funded the outing with $2,500 in gift cards, providing $100 per child for purchases that included gifts for both family members and the children themselves. The shopping trip was accompanied by members of Lowell Police, Lowell Fire, state troopers and EMS volunteers, a longstanding format intended to build positive relationships between public safety personnel and young residents.
Local organizations supplemented the effort, with contributions from the Greater Lowell Community Foundation and the Police Activities League among those helping to assemble the event. Target store teams handled logistics, from coordinating checkout lanes to arranging shopping escorts, and worked with school and public safety representatives to make the experience smooth and safe. Community partners helped select participants and manage transportation, allowing the event to run efficiently on a busy holiday shopping day.
For Target employees the event offered both operational challenges and morale benefits. Managers adjusted staffing and scheduling to accommodate the midday event, while frontline workers were called on to provide extra assistance and attention to the visiting children and their escorts. Many employees reported that the hands on interaction and visible community impact reinforced a sense of purpose during one of the retail sector’s most demanding weeks. At the same time the need for temporary operational changes highlighted how corporate giving programs intersect with everyday store responsibilities.

The Heroes & Helpers event in Lowell illustrates a model of corporate philanthropy that blends financial support with in store hosting and staff involvement. By funding gift cards and providing a venue, Target acted as both donor and facilitator, while local foundations and public safety partners supplied community ties and outreach. For workers, such events can strengthen connections to the neighborhoods they serve, create short term workload shifts and offer a tangible demonstration of employer commitment to community engagement during the holidays.
