Target to open 11 stores in July, expanding jobs and training

Target is adding 11 stores across 10 states this month, and the first openings are already creating a narrow window for applicants, transfers, and internal promotions before those jobs get crowded. The July wave spans Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and Utah, with the company treating each site as part of a larger hiring push tied to store launch dates.

For team members, the most immediate opening is in Brookings, South Dakota, where Target has set a July 26 opening at 801 Lefevre Dr. and marked the location as Summer 2026 Now Hiring on its careers page. In Tupelo, Mississippi, applications were already open in early July for a store expected to open in October, showing how quickly the pre-opening hiring phase can move from a local rumor to a live staffing campaign. Target’s jobs page also lists other 2026 openings in Fort Worth Chisholm Trail, Katy Heritage Parkway, Norfolk Wards Corner, Cookeville, Lima, Lexington Augusta Hwy, Bridgehampton, Liberty Hill, Perris, Logan, Springfield East, Frankfort and Forney.

That matters inside stores because new locations create more than frontline cashier or fulfillment slots. They also open space for trainers, department leads, guest service leaders and operations managers who can help build a store from the ground up. The earliest hires usually shape the standard for the whole building, from how Drive Up runs at peak to how quickly fulfillment teams can clear digital orders. Target says its stores fulfill 95% of digital orders, and it describes the new locations as micro-fulfillment hubs, which means each opening is being built to handle in-store shopping and same-day services at the same time.

The company’s broader 2026 plan puts more muscle behind that staffing surge. Target said it will open more than 30 stores this year, backed by a $5 billion capital investment plan, more than 130 remodels and hundreds of millions of dollars in additional store payroll and training. Target also said its starting wage range is $15 to $24 an hour, depending on role and location, with most pay and benefits available on day one. For workers weighing whether to move, that combination of new payroll and training dollars can matter as much as the opening itself.

Target’s March growth plan said the retailer expects to reach more than 300 new stores by 2035, and it marked its 2,000th store in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. For employees watching the map, the practical read is simple: the first people in the door at these July openings are likely to get the clearest shot at training, visibility and first-round leadership roles.
