Papa Dan's Pizza and Pasta Reopens in Palm Desert After 2024 Arson Fire
Papa Dan's Pizza & Pasta, a Coachella Valley staple since 1984, cut the ribbon on its new Palm Desert home Monday after arson burned it to the ground in April 2024.

Papa Dan's Pizza & Pasta held its grand reopening ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. at 73011 Country Club Drive in Palm Desert, closing a nearly two-year chapter that began when an arson fire in April 2024 destroyed the restaurant's previous building and a row of neighboring businesses along with it.
"We are incredibly grateful for the support we received from the community during this difficult time," said owner Ira Mosley. "Reopening our doors in this beautiful new space means everything to us, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back."
The timing stings in a particular way for Mosley and his staff. Papa Dan's first opened in the Coachella Valley in 1984, and the crew had been preparing to celebrate the restaurant's 40th anniversary when the April 2024 fire erased those plans entirely. What followed was a rebuild Mosley described as chaotic, with various government agencies requiring changes and updates before granting approval. Through it all, he worked to recreate the original restaurant's look and feel while layering in new features, including a bar area and updated menu items, alongside the freshly made pizzas and classic pasta dishes that built the restaurant's reputation over four decades.

The new location sits directly across from Bristol Farms in the same shopping center and offers a larger dining area with a refreshed interior designed for families, longtime regulars, and anyone walking in for the first time. Mosley's advice ahead of the opening was direct: order online or be prepared for long lines. That warning was not unfounded. Dozens of people had already been showing up at the doors in the days before the official opening, asking whether the restaurant had started serving.
The Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce co-hosted the ribbon-cutting ceremony, with community members, loyal customers, and local leaders invited to attend. The reopening represents more than a new address for a well-loved Italian spot. Papa Dan's, now in a larger space with a bar and an expanded menu, arrives back on the Coachella Valley dining scene after a loss that would have finished off many small businesses for good.
